Off to Gatlinburg Tennessee we go. My wife Kathy and her sister Becky and myself are heading to Gatlinburg for a 3 day jewelry show. My wife sells jewelry and accessories to the plus size woman on her Web site. So we are heading to a wholesale jewelry show. It should be nice combination of work for her plus some work for me and a brief vacation for all three of us.
It's about a four-hour Drive to Gatlinburg from our home and nice Drive lots of mountains along the way. And nice cool day, about 54 degrees just right for a Drive. Going there we took the long way through Knoxville then around and down I-40 then and to Gatlinburg. We can definitely tell it was not season as there were very few people walking the streets. That is really not normal for Gatlinburg. We got a nice motel across the street from the convention center so it was easy to get their win the show started on Saturday.
We were quite tired when we got there so we had a quick bite to eat and headed for bed. Sunday morning when I got up, I got dressed and walked outside. And as I walked to the rail I noticed the big white snowflakes coming down. I called back in the room and told Kathy, hey guys it's snowing out here! They could hardly believe it as snow was not in the weather report. But it was here big white fluffy snowflakes, about two inches worth. We got up went to the restaurant just down the street and had breakfast, then headed for the convention center for the show.
After several hours of shopping and shopping and shopping it was time to call drove the day at the show. We headed down to a nice little barbecue restaurant called Bennetts, good food great barbecue sauce. The sauce was so good we got two bottles to take home. Service was great! We drove around Gatlinburg for a short period of time then headed back to the motel for the night I.
Monday morning we got a early as this was the last day of the show. So we wanted to get a good jump on the show. They told us yesterday evening at Bennetts that they had a great Monday breakfast for 6.99 so we thought we would give it a shot. Not bad good breakfast . Service was great! Headed for the show and spend until about noon time there.
Since it was such a beautiful day we decided to go out to where the craftsman had their cabins. We stoped at a great little shop that had tons of handmade crafts and lot's of coool giftsit was at 459 Glades Rd ( www.visitjustforyougifts.com ) . I got quite a few things from Jack the owner. We saw lots of nifty crafts and lots of pottery got several items to take home had great day. We also l listened at one of the pottery shops to a cool mountain band and got there CD. For dinner we went to the Alamo and had a great steak dinner. The Alamo is the real thing a true steak house tender juicy perfectly cooked steaks. I had the ribeye medium rare and it was perfect. Well worth the $16.99 for the steak.
I have been to Gatlinburg many times and it has always been very busy. This time they were getting ready for season doing maintenance on the roads, which was the only problem we had but we didn't have to dodge the tourists. We had a great time! If you're looking for quick little getaway, Gatlinburg this time of the year is certainly that. All the shops, restaurants, motels and tourist traps are open.
Best of travels to you.
